Literacy- We learned about letter writing and wrote Christmas cards to seniors and servicemen. We experienced the traditions of B is for Bethlehem and the Live Nativity here at Covenant. This week we will write about our Christmas traditions. Word Study spell check will be on Tuesday as usual, but a new sort will not be given out on Wednesday.
Math- We learned that ordinal numbers describe the position of things. We played a partner game locating cubes based on their position- first on the right, third from the left, etc. You can practice this at home by lining objects up and having your child find the one whose position you describe. We are working on a number bond bulletin board for our classroom. Our next unit will be adding and subtracting with numbers to twenty.
Bible- December's Bible verse is- "For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders, and He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Isaiah 9:6 Next week's Chapel will showcase Bible verse memorization in a few grades, and we will be reciting ours! Students are enjoying each other's Jesse Tree ornaments and our tree is filling up!

History- Students are excited to be learning about maps and enjoying looking at maps available in the classroom. We will do many activities with maps this week, including tracing the map of the United States.
NOTES
from Dr. Gaffney:
Lately we have noticed many of our students are bringing toys to school. These range from stuffed
animals to dolls, Pokemon & sports trading cards to balls of various kinds. These toys often hinder our children from running and playing during their recess time as well they can also be the source of conflict.
We understand that some students arrive early to the Multipurpose Room each morning and want to bring something to do. We encourage students to bring a book to read or look at in their backpack for these occasions. If your child wants to bring a toy to “share” for a classroom activity, this is allowed only for that “share” time and must immediately return to their backpack. Thank you for your help with this matter.
-Relaxed dress day is each Friday. Please follow guidelines posted in the Handbook.
