LITERACY- Students are enjoying our literacy and word study times in their groups.  Please remember that your child will be coming home with a new word study sort each Wednesday.  They should cut, sort, write the words, and play games with them at home.  If your child has come home with sight words, he/she should be reviewing them each night.  We have also been writing more stories in our Writing and Drawing books and talking about how we can borrow ideas from authors.  We call these mentor texts!

MATH- This week we have reviewed number bonds to ten, and we have even explored ways to break our whole into three parts, instead of just two.  Students have enjoyed using the number balance to help them break apart the whole.  We also learned how to play Kakooma, which was challenging, but very fun!  Next week, we will begin our unit on making addition stories.  These will be accompanied by number bonds and math talks, which consists of discussing the math we see in different pictures.  Help your child look for math in different places!

BIBLE- We continue to discuss and practice memorizing The Ten Commandments.  Students picked a Commandment to write and illustrate.  Next week we will read about how God gave the Israelites a new leader to take them into the land of Jericho.  We will also begin discussing our new Bible verse.

SCIENCE- Our guest expert, Dr. Bellows, will be coming in on Thursday to show us how to do a turtle check up. We have created our list of what we wonder about box turtles, and students have been enjoying all of our turtle books.  We will begin making our web this week!
