LITERACY-  Kevin Henkes will be the author we focus on for the first month of school, reading his many books that model cooperation, friendship and adjustment to school. Students are writing about their summers and sharing that writing with the class.

MATH-  We will spend some time sharing about math the students learned in kindergarten. We have been looking for math in the courtyard because math is everywhere!  Our focus for the first month or two will be on the number bonds which make ten. Students will use manipulatives and work in small groups and pairs.

BIBLE- After learning about the five school rules, we will focus on the life of  Moses and The Ten Commandments will in September. The Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:1-17) is our Bible Verse for the month of September.

SCIENCE- Skills of the Tracker 1, along with our box turtle unit, will be our science focus for the first month of school. The Skills of the Tracker unit is written by Chris Hall and it continues in second and third grades. The activities will help students learn how to be more aware and attentive to God's creation all around them.  Throughout the turtle unit, students will have hands on experiences learning about box turtle habitats, physical characteristics, behavior, and diet. The Skills of the Tracker unit will go hand in hand with our turtle unit.
