LITERACY- We have finished reading The Boxcar Children. Students wrote about their favorite character, or part of the story. If you are interested, there is a Boxcar Children movie (cartoon) on Netflix which is fairly well done. It changes the story in some minor ways; ask your child how. Literacy group discussions focus on character, plot, vocabulary and sequence of events. Decoding strategies are always a focus in literacy group.
MATH- We are enjoying math stations, which now include some place value work. We will be looking at number patterns, to find missing numbers. For example, 8, 11,14,____,17, 20,____. We will also be adding numbers by making "my friend ten". If a problem is 9+8=____, you can make 10, and add 10+7 to give you the answer.
BIBLE- December's Bible verse is Isaiah 9:6- -For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders, and He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.-- Next week, we will focus on the role of the shepherds and wise men in the Christmas story. Students look forward to unwrapping Jesse Tree ornaments each day and adding them to the tree. We are also making Christmas cards for seniors who may not receive Christmas greetings otherwise.
HISTORY- We will begin our unit on Ancient Egypt. Thanks to our cross-curricular studies in art class, students have some prior knowledge coming in to this unit. I have posted pictures of some of the history art work.
