Science- We have finished our unit on taking care of our bodies, which focused on nutrition, exercise and hygiene. We will begin our next history unit, on Mexico, this week.
Literacy-We will continue to work on the proper placement of periods in our writing. We are including dialogue in our work during Writing Workshop.
Math- We will begin a long unit about place value this week. We will use language like this: "23 is two tens and 3 ones," and , "If you have 10 ones, you can bundle them and make a ten."
The school is collecting food for the local Food Bank. If you are able, please shop with your child for this wonderful cause. It is a tangible way for children to experience Christmas as a time for giving!

Christmas Concert- Wednesday, December 18, 6:30-8:00 pm. Students should arrive in the classroom between 6:05 and 6:15.
First Grade Christmas Breakfast- Friday, Dec. 20th, 8:45-10:15
Christmas Vacation - noon on Friday, December 20th to Monday, January 6th, 2014. Classes resume on January 7th.
Relaxed Dress Day- Friday, January 10th
Monday, January 20- no school
