Bible- We will learn about the story of Ruth and Naomi. It is a wonderful example of the fifth Commandment, honor thy father and mother. Our Bible verse for October is Joshua 1:9..."Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged, for the Lord will be with you wherever you go."

History- Ask your child what the word Mesopotamia means! We've learned about how people moved from the farms to the cities, and what is needed for civilization. This week we'll learn about the writing invented by Mesopotamians, cuneiform.

Literacy-  Spelling words will be introduced on Tuesday, and assessments will be given on Friday, as usual. We are finding verbs, nouns, and now adjectives, in poems and stories. We are reading mentor texts, to help us with our own writing and drawing in Writing Workshop.

Math- Next week we will begin subtraction with numbers 1-10. We will use stories, pictures, and number bonds to help us. Look for things to add and subtract at home.

Please check the attached schedule to see when your child’s class is scheduled to come to the book fair. If you want your child to select a book or two, you have several options:

1.   If it fits into your schedule, you can come with your child at his/her scheduled time to help select books. Our class time is Tuesday, October 22 from 12:00-12:30.
2.   You may send money with your child (books start at about  $5-6). The parent volunteers, teachers, and aides will help your child make a selection.
