Bible- We will learn about Samuel, beginning with the prayer of his mother Hannah, for a child. Our Bible verse for October is Joshua 1:9..."Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged, for the Lord will be with you wherever you go."
History- We will learn that a civilization needs rules, just like we have school rules here at Covenant. We will learn about Hammurabi's Code of Laws, at the time of Mesopotamia.
Literacy- Spelling words will be introduced on Tuesday, and assessments will be given on Friday, as usual. We have continued to work on finding nouns, verbs, and adjectives in poems and in books. Next week we will work our brains with analogies, like tweet is to bird as cow is to_____. The story of The Boxcar Children continues to captivate the class.
Math- We are learning the different ways to subtract: taking away, counting on from the smaller number, counting back, and using number bonds. We are writing subtraction sentences, to accompany our work.

Scholastic Book Fair- The Book Fair is coming to the Lower School library on Tuesday through Friday, October 22-25. We will have a nice selection of paperback and hard cover books. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the lower library and provide honorariums for visiting authors. Please check the attached schedule to see when your child’s class is scheduled to come to the book fair. If you want your child to select a book or two, you have several options:
1. If it fits into your schedule, you can come with your child at his/her scheduled time to help select books. Our class time is Tuesday, October 22 from 12:00-12:30.
2. You may send money with your child (books start at about $5-6). The parent volunteers, teachers, and aides will help your child make a selection.
3. You are invited to come and shop any time during the open hours.
If you have time, please drop in to see our wonderful selection of books!
