BibleThis week we will review the Ten Commandments. Then we will learn about Joshua, the new leader of the Israelites, and the Battle of Jericho. Ask your child to recite the Ten Commandments for you!

Science- We have finished our study of the desert habitat, and we will begin studying prairie and mountain habitats this week. Ask your student what type of animals live in the desert, and how they are able to survive in the hot, dry weather.

Literacy- Run. Jump. Pull. Push. Climb. Swing. Juggle.....Welcome to the world of verbs. We are noticing verbs in all we read and coming up with many of them on our own. We will finish our unit on Kevin Henkes this week. He has taught us many wonderful things that writers do, and students are trying those things in their own writing (speech bubbles, labels, multiple pictures on a page, bold words, descriptive language etc.)

Math- We will strengthen our number bond skills this week, in preparation for our upcoming unit on addition. We pay special attention to number bonds for ten, as this will help us understand adding and subtracting with regrouping (later in the year!) Play this game at home: Put some buttons, or other objects of similar size on a table. As an example, put 5 buttons in front of your child and ask, "how many more buttons do I need to make 8?" Do this with numbers up to 10.
