Science: We began learning about food chains and also started discussing and reading about the rainforest habitat. Ask your child to tell you about the weather in the rainforest, and what kind of animals live there.
Literacy: Word Study and literacy groups begin this week. Your child may switch teachers for one or both of these groups. Be sure to read the note about literacy groups that came home on Friday, and look for the Word Study note and first sort, coming home on Monday. We will continue to read books by the author Kevin Henkes. Three times a week we have Writing Workshop in the afternoon.
Math: Last week, we learned how to use the vocabulary "more than and less than" to compare numbers, and we also looked at patterns in numbers. We will begin a unit on number bonds later in the week. Number bonds are the way numerals are combined to make other numerals, the way two parts make a whole. For example, a number bond for 10 is 8 and 2, and a number bond for 5 is 4 and 1.
