Math-  We will continue to work on addition and subtraction
with regrouping for the rest of the year. Regrouping is a focus in
second grade, so this is an introduction. We use Base Ten Blocks
to solve these problems. Students were even introduced to multiplication,
learning that it is repeated addition!

Literacy- After our trip, students did a wonderful job writing
all about Lewis and Clark. Feel free to stop by our classrooms and
read your child's writing on our bulletin board. Continue working
on sight words and home. We have begun one of my favorite parts
of first grade- our read-aloud, Charlotte's Web. If your child asks
to watch the movie, please hold off until after we finish reading the
book!

Bible- May's Bible verse is Nehemiah 9:5- Stand up and praise
the Lord your God, who is from everlasting to everlasting."Blessed
be your glorious name, and may it be exalted above all blessing and
praise." Next week we will write about Paul and learn more about Peter.

History- We had a wonderful trip to the Lewis and Clark
Exploratory Center at Darden Towe Park. This is a great resource
right in our own backyard. The Center is open Fridays and Saturdays
after May 14.  A Public Opening Celebration is open to all on
Saturday, May 14 from 10-4. We will continue learning about
the Lewis and Clark expedition this month through non-fiction
books.
