Math- We will continue to work on addition and subtraction with regrouping for the rest of the year. Regrouping is a focus in second grade, so this is an introduction. We use Base Ten Blocks to solve these problems. Students were even introduced to multiplication, learning that it is repeated addition!
Literacy- Students´ last set of Word Study words will go home this week. The test for those words will be on Wednesday, May 25. Students are enjoying listening to Charlotte's Web. Besides learning about the plot, characters and setting, we are learning about spiders and pigs too! The wonderful themes of friendship, humility, loyalty and stewardship make for great discussion.
Bible- May's Bible verse is Nehemiah 9:5- Stand up and praise the Lord your God, who is from everlasting to everlasting."Blessed be your glorious name, and may it be exalted above all blessing and praise." Next week we will learn about the early church and more about Paul.
History- When asked in a morning message which trip they enjoyed the most this year, the overwhelming majority of students picked the trip to the Lewis and Clark Exploratory Center! Therefore, we will continue learning about the Lewis and Clark expedition this month. The Center at Darden Towe Park will have a public opening celebration on Saturday, May 14 from 10-4.
