Math- We will be coming up with strategies to solve missing numbers in a pattern. Examples:
3, 6, ____, 12, 15, 18, _____, 24. 18, 16, 14,______, 10, 8, _____,______, 2
You can write such patterns for your child. Have them solve for the missing numbers. Ask them, "Do the numbers get bigger or smaller?" "How many numbers are being skipped?" We will continue comparing numbers by using place value.
Literacy- In Word Study, students are building words using foam or magnetic letters, hunting for words with the same patterns in books and poems, writing their words on whiteboards, and playing Concentration. We have finished reading The Boxcar Children aloud and the class loved it! Students are making books during Writing Workshop. Ask your child what h/she is writing about.
Bible- February's Bible verse is Psalm 24:1-2, "The earth is the Lord's and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for He founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters." We will be learning about Jonah, Ezra and Nehemiah in the coming weeks.
History- We will begin a unit on Ancient Egypt this week. Students have already learned quite a bit about ancient Egypt during art class.

Important information from the P.E. teachers
Clothing
1. We will be going outside during the winter for recess and P.E., therefore students need to be dressed appropriately. Pants, long sleeve shirts, and jackets are highly recommended. Winter hats and gloves are extremely important.
2. As stated in the handbook, children are required to be properly dressed for P.E. This is especially important regarding footwear. It is paramount to your child's safety and their performance that tennis shoes are worn to class.
