Literacy-. Practice Word Study words nightly. Play games with the words. For example, ask, "Can you think of words that rhyme with cake?" " Can you change the in cake to make a new word?" Make a copy of the words and play Concentration with two sets. Matches must have the same feature/pattern (CVC/ CVCe). Students are enjoying listening to The Boxcar Children.  Students had a lot to write about in their snow day writing!

Math- We are learning about place value as we add numbers through twenty. The math tool used to teach place value is Base Ten Blocks. One block is worth ten and a smaller block is worth one. Stations include work with time, addition and subtraction, pattern blocks, and making ten.

Bible- February's Bible verse is Psalm 24:1-2, "The earth is the Lord's and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for He founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters." Next week we will learn about Ezra and Nehemiah.

ScienceWe will be reading books about ocean life and ocean animals in our reading groups during the month of February. We will also talk about stewardship of the ocean that God has given us.

Important information from the P.E. teachers
Clothing
     1. We will be going outside during the winter for recess and P.E., therefore students need to be dressed appropriately. Pants, long sleeve shirts, and jackets are highly recommended. Winter hats and gloves are extremely important.
     2. As stated in the handbook, children are required to be properly dressed for P.E. This is especially important regarding footwear. It is paramount to your child's safety and their performance that tennis shoes are worn to class.

B. Competition at Recess
     1. We want to develop a competitive drive in our students. There is a time and place to let that competitive spirit loose. At recess, we want your children to strengthen their social skills. Their goals should be finding ways to get active, opportunities to include others, helping friends and teammates achieve success, and solving disagreements using kindness and grace.
