LITERACY-  Literacy groups read many genres of books including fiction, non-fiction, mysteries and biographies. We try to expose the students to the great variety of written material available to them. Groups are working on reading with expression and fluency. We wrote about our spring break trying to include interesting details to our writing.

MATH-  We are learning strategies to help us solve word problems. We circle numbers we'll use to solve the problem and cue words like in- all, fewer, more than, less than, etc. This week, write one or two word problems for your child using his/her name in the problem.

For example:   Ava and Nick went fishing. They caught 42 fish in all. Nick caught 29 fish. How many fish did Ava catch? Then have your child write the number sentence used to solve the problem--42-29=13, or 29+13=42 and then write--- Ava caught 13 fish. Students use hundred charts and mental math to solve the problem.

BIBLE-  April's Bible verse is  Psalm 8:1-2  "O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise."  We will learn about Jesus' ascension next week.

HISTORY- We will be learning about the Revolutionary War, Ben Franklin and George Washington. Ask your child why we celebrate the 4th of July!
