LITERACY- When a student has trouble reading a word, there are strategies to use: sound it out, look for a little word inside the word, look for picture clues, ask--does it make sense? We help students try these decoding strategies before telling him/her the word.
MATH- We will continue to learn about solid figures including the sphere, cylinder, pyramid, rectangular prism, cube, and cone. We'll identify their corners and faces (sides). We'll notice how they differ from plane shapes including the square, triangle and circle. Station work continues to be a highlight of math time.
BIBLE- October's Bible verse is Joshua 1:9, " Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged, for the Lord will be with you wherever you go." We will read the beautiful story of Ruth and Naomi.
SCIENCE- We are entering the end of our turtle unit! Students will either write turtle fact books or design a box turtle habitat with the help of "useful junk".
