LITERACY- As we read together in literacy groups, a picture walk is taken before we read a book. We make predictions as to what the story will be about, based on the pictures. New vocabulary is introduced. Students have opportunities to read aloud, choral read and "whisper read." As we read together, we talk about characters, setting, plot, and vocabulary. Later in the week, we will introduce adjectives.

MATH- We have been working on subtraction the past two days. We have written subtraction stories, with the corresponding number bond, and subtraction sentence. We will discover fact families, and write two addition and two subtraction sentences for each number bond/fact family. So, from the number bond of 3,5, and 8, come the math sentences: 3+5=8, 5+3=8, 8-3=5 and 8-5=3.

BIBLE- We learned how God helped the Israelites escaped Egypt, by parting the Red Sea and about how God gave Moses the Ten Commandments.

SCIENCE- Even though we lost Tommy, our turtle project has continued :).  We learned a lot about turtles at Ivy Creek and even got to hold turtle shells and see turtle bones.  We have been reading non-fiction books and watched two documentaries about box turtles.  Next week, we will write about our field trip and also write thank you notes to our Ivy Creek guides.  Our new turtle will pay our class a visit on Tuesday, but not before Ms. Wilke can get her hands on some wire to put over his pen!
