LITERACY- Students are enjoying our literacy and word study times in their groups.  Please remember that your child will be coming home with a new word study sort each Wednesday.  H/she should cut, sort, write the words, and play games with them at home.  If your child has come home with sight words, they should be reviewed each night.  Students have been excited to get new colors on their rings! We have also been writing more stories in our Writing and Drawing books and talking about how we can borrow ideas from authors.  On Friday, we practiced drawing bubble people to help us add detail to our story.  

MATH- This week, we have reviewed and discussed how ten frames and number bonds can help us organize numbers. Students have enjoyed our new warm ups, such as "count around the circle" and "dot plate flash".  We also began discussing what math stations look, sound, and feel like to get us ready to start stations. Next week, we will begin writing addition stories and problems. 

BIBLE- We discussed our new Bible verse: "I love you O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge."- Psalm 18:1-2  Students wrote the verse and drew a picture to help them remember the verse. We practice it when we line up.  Next week, we will continue talking and reading about Gideon.

SCIENCE- Our trip to Ivy Creek went very well! On our hike, we saw turtles, worms, spiders, and noticed the beautiful leaves changing colors.  We also heard different types of birds. We wrote about our trip and did an author's share. We also began making our box turtle web. Next week, we will begin reading "Samantha Loses the Box Turtle", which will teach us more about box turtles so we can add to our web.

Teacher Workday- Monday, Oct. 19, no school

Early dismissal and day off- Thursday, November 5, we dismiss at 11:45 due to Parent/Teacher Conferences in the afternoon, and Friday, November 6 school is closed, for a full day of Parent/Teacher Conferences.
