April 28-May 2

Bible- We will learn about the good news of Jesus' resurrection.

Science- Our unit is on length and weight.

History- We will begin a unit on westward expansion, including Lewis and Clark. This unit culminates in our trip to the Lewis and Clark Exploratory Center at Darden Towe Park, here in Charlottesville. 

Literacy- Our last read aloud novel is Charlotte's Web. We will learn about characters, setting, and plot as we dig into this wonderful and classic book. We will continue learning about suffixes, and then prefixes.

Math- We are learning to subtract one and two digit numbers, with and without regrouping. We use place value sticks and mats.

*****Saturday, April 26- Lower School Work Day- Come any time between 9 and noon and help make our grounds more beautiful.

*****Friday, May 2- Grandparents Day. Guests visit first grade from 9:30-9:55, then go to the gym for a musical performances. Students may leave with their guests when the performance is over (guests need to pick students up in their classrooms.) For those who don't leave early, we dismiss at 11:45. 

5th and 6th grade production of Peter Pan-Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3- 7:00 pm,  at the Upper School Performing Arts Center. Three of our students have siblings in lead roles and many book buddies are in the play. Tickets are on sale now.

Trip to Lewis and Clark Exploratory Center- Tuesday, May 6, 9:15-12:00

Rising 2nd grade Brown Bag Lunch-Thursday, May 15, 12:00pm.  Please try to attend, especially if you were not able to make it to Preview Night, as you will learn a lot about second grade.

Friday, May 16th- Field Day, 8:45-12:00

Memorial Day- Monday, May 26, no school

First Grade end of year picnic- Tuesday, May 27th, 11-2, at Greenleaf Park, all are welcome and all are needed!

Last day of classes- Thursday, May 29

Closing Ceremony- Friday, May 30- 8:30am
